Advancing Policy Change: Presenting Our Policy Analysis Report to the Commissioner of Women Affairs, Cross River State

Child marriage remains a significant challenge in Nigeria, denying millions of girls their right to education, health, and a bright future. As part of our ongoing efforts to end this harmful practice, our coalition recently took a bold step toward influencing policy at the state level.

During our two-day capacity-building training for coalition members in Calabar, Cross River State, we had the privilege of presenting our policy analysis report to the Commissioner of Women Affairs, Cross River State. This report serves as a critical tool for advocacy, offering data-driven insights into the state of child marriage in Nigeria and the policies required to combat it effectively.

Why Policy Matters in the Fight Against Child Marriage
While advocacy and grassroots interventions are essential, sustainable change can only be achieved when strong policies are enacted and implemented. Our policy analysis report highlights:

✅ Existing gaps in child protection laws and their enforcement
✅ Key recommendations for strengthening legal frameworks to protect girls
✅ The role of government, CSOs, and community leaders in ensuring accountability

By presenting this report to the Commissioner of Women Affairs, we are ensuring that policy decisions are informed by accurate data, lived experiences, and global best practices.

Building Capacity for Greater Impact
Beyond policy advocacy, the two-day capacity-building training in Calabar was a major milestone for our coalition members. The training focused on:

📌 Strengthening advocacy strategies to push for policy reforms at state and national levels
📌 Leveraging data for impactful storytelling, making the case for stronger legal protection against child marriage
📌 Enhancing collaboration among CSOs to drive a unified and strategic movement

The Road Ahead
Ending child marriage requires more than just conversations—it demands action, accountability, and collaboration. With the support of the Cross River State government, policymakers, and committed stakeholders, we are confident that real change is possible.

This is just the beginning. We will continue to monitor policy implementation, engage key stakeholders, and mobilize communities to ensure that every girl in Nigeria has the right to a childhood free from early marriage.
