Advocating for Girls’ Education and Well-being in Enugu State

The Coalition believes that education is one of the most powerful tools for transforming lives, particularly for girls. When girls have access to quality education, they are more likely to build a better future for themselves, their families, and their communities. However, financial constraints, delayed budget releases, and inadequate policies often hinder access to free education, putting girls at greater risk of early marriage and limiting their opportunities for a brighter future.

In light of this, our team recently engaged in a strategic advocacy visit to Chairman Anthony Nwankwo, Enugu State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation. The purpose of this visit was to push for timely budget releases that support free education and the overall well-being of girls in the state.

Why Timely Budget Releases Matter
Budgetary allocations for education and girls’ development are crucial, but without timely disbursement of funds, many policies and programs remain ineffective. This delay often leads to:
✅ Limited access to free education: Schools may struggle with resources, making it difficult for girls to remain in the education system.
✅ Increased dropout rates: Financial burdens on families force many girls out of school, leaving them vulnerable to early marriage and economic hardship.
✅ Inadequate support systems: Without proper funding, girls lack essential services such as mentorship, scholarships, and health programs that contribute to their well-being.

By advocating for efficient budget allocations and prompt releases, we are taking a critical step toward ensuring that every girl in Enugu State has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.

Our Commitment to Ending Child Marriage by 2030
This advocacy effort is part of our broader mission to end child marriage by 2030. We recognize that keeping girls in school is one of the most effective ways to achieve this goal. When girls receive an education, they gain knowledge, skills, and confidence, reducing their likelihood of being forced into early marriage.

What’s Next?
We will continue to engage policymakers, community leaders, and stakeholders to ensure that girls’ education and well-being remain a priority. Our advocacy efforts will also extend to monitoring budget implementations, raising public awareness, and strengthening partnerships with like-minded organizations to drive sustainable change.

Join Us in This Movement
We invite everyone—parents, educators, policymakers, and advocates—to join us in this mission. Together, we can create a future where every girl has access to education, remains safe from harmful practices, and achieves her full potential.
